THE IRISH COB STUDBOOK
Terminology: an Irish Cob is a mare or stallion registered as such in the
Basic Register or in the Main Section of an approved Irish Cob studbook.
Approved Irish Cob studbooks are: ICS Nederland, ICS Belgium, ICS Sweden,
ECHA-ESV Germany and ICS-Ltd Ireland.
An Irish Cob is regarded approved for breeding when rewarded with a third,
second or first premium (Premie) on an ICS Nederland Premium Inspection or
an equivalent inspection of an approved Irish Cob studbook in the country
the Irish Cob originates from.
Cobs rewarded with a premium are upgraded:
- from the Basic register to the Basic Premie register
- from HB1 to HB1 Premie
- from HB2 to HB2 Premie
The main section of the studbook is devided into Registers:
HB1: Hoofdboek 1: progeny of an approved (= with Premie) Irish Cob stallion
and a registered Irish Cob mare
HB2: Hoofdboek 2: Progeny of an unapproved Irish Cob stallion and a
registered Irish Cob mare.
The Supplement section of the studbook is devided into registers:
Basic Register: Irish Cobs with unknown parents or with only one Irish Cob
parent, after breed-entry inspection.
Foal Book 2: Foals with one parent unknown; these foals can be upgraded to
the Basic Register on an inspection.
(Foal Book 1, originally for full pedigree foals, is no longer in use since
january 2008))
PREMIUM INSPECTIONS
Premium Inspections are open for registered Irish Cob mares from 2 years of
age (stallions 3 years).
As date of aging January 1 is taken)
Premiums are granted based on the number of points on the score chart used
at an ICS-NL inspection.
Up to and including 127 points: no premium.
From 128 up to and including 135 points: 3rd Premium
From 136 up to and including 143 points: 2nd Premium
From 144 up to and including 160 points: 1st Premium
Mares cannot attain a first premium if one or more items on the score chart
are 7 or lower.
Stallions cannot attain any premium (=approval for breeding) if one or more
items on the score chart are 7 or lower.
Since the 2009 AGM:
Stallions born after 2009 of which the sire did not attain an ICS-NL premium
(e.g. born in HB2) are not accepted on a premium inspection (i.e. cannot be
approved for breeding)
Stallions that were rejected by another studbook on veterinary grounds
cannot be approved for breeding Irish Cobs in the ICS-NL studbook
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Adult Irish Cobs that are rewarded with a first Premium two times different
calandar years attain the title "STER"
Irish Cobs with three of more descentants that are rewarded a first premium
when adult, are entitled to the title "Preferent"
Breed-entry are open for all eqidae not yet registered in an Irish Cob

Foals (up to 2 years old) can attain a foal-Premium. Foals-Premiums however

Preferent title for the parents.
OTHER STUDBOOKS
Premiums and classifications of other studbooks can not be acknowledged by
ICS-Nederland
Pointsystemet i ICS NL:
Under 128 point ingen premiering
128- 135 point = 3 premium AVLSGODKENDT
136 - 143 point = 2. premium AVLSGODKENDT
144 - 160 point = 1. premium AVLSGODKENDT
1. premium er selvfølgelig det bedste
STER titlen opnåes således:
2 x 1. premium opnået i hvert sit kalenderår
